On August 24th I did an organ trio gig at the Jazz Cellar with Tony Foster on B3 organ and Nino DiPasquale on drums.
This was a fun weekend at O'Doul's. I got to play with Adam Thomas (bass) and Bill Coon (guitar) on the first night, and Sharon Minemoto (piano) and Russ Botten (bass) on the other two nights.
Saturday, July 3rd I played with Kate Hammett-Vaughan's great quintet as part of the Vancouver International Jazz Festival on the Performance Works stage. The other band members included Andre Lachance (bass), Chris Gestrin (piano), and Tom Foster (drums).
On Saturday, June 26th I played with UGETSU as part of the Vancouver International Jazz Festival at the Gastown Steamclock stage. It was a fun gig with lots of people! Bernie Arai (drums), Andre Lachance (bass), Ross Taggart (piano), Brad Turner (trumpet), Rod Murray (trombone)
On Friday, June 25th, I played with Daryl Jahnke's quartet as part of the Vancouver International Jazz Festival. The other band members included Chris Gestrin (keys) and Bernie Arai (drums).
On Friday, June 25th, I played a gig with Darren Radtke (bass) and Chris Sigerson (piano) for a private group at Bard on the Beach. We played standards on an absolutely gorgeous evening by the beach.
Friday, May 14th I did a gig at the Jazz Cellar with Sharon Minemoto's quartet. Fresh back from NYC, we played new original compositions inspired by her trip. We were accompanied by Paul Rushka on bass and Bernie Arai on drums.
On March 31st, I played with Bernie Arai's Out of the Afternoon Quartet. A Tribute to Roy Haynes, we performed compositions and arrangements linked to the legendary career of master drummer Roy “Snap Crackle Pop” Haynes. Bernie Arai, drums; Brad Turner, piano; Tommy Babin, bass.
This was a fun gig playing standards with Sharon Minemoto and Russ Botten at O'Doul's on Robson on March 18th.
On March 12th and 13th, I had a ton of fun playing with Brad Turner's Black Codes from the Underground quintet at the Jazz Cellar. We played all of the music from Wynton Marsalis' classic jazz album Black Codes. Special thanks to Brad Turner, Sean Drabitt, Miles Black, and Jesse Cahill for their amazing and inspiring playing!
UGETSU played a set at Club 2010 at Performance Works on Granville island as part of the Cultural Olympiad. It was a double bill with the fantastic Jodi Proznick Quartet.
UGETSU played a short set at Richmond's Olympic “O Zone” venue.
On Apr 15, CBC will broadcast a recent gig I played on with the Peggy Lee Band. It was at UBC as a part of their Noon Hour concert series and will be aired on CBC's program “The Signal.” The music and pics are also available on “Concerts on Demand” by clicking here.
As someone who grew up riding the ferries of coastal British Columbia, this is a project that has special meaning to me to be part of. Chris Gestrin has composed some stunningly beautiful music as the soundtrack to this film. Chris rode the ferries and recorded the sounds that they made to incorporate into the music soundtrack. “Inside Passage” debuted at the 2009 Vancouver International Film Festival.
